"film blanc," a term I shamelessly coined, to me means All-American, vanilla-laden, middle class-affirming, authority-worshipping bullshit.

Intentionally so -- which is another way of saying propaganda.

What was the John Wayne abomination where he played the (CO)PD? "McClintock"?

"Air Force One" is another example. So too "The American President."

ANYTHING with Tom Hanks -- you know, Duke without the dick.

The 9-11, made-for-Goebbels-babies fables top the charts, by the way -- especially the queerjerker in which George Bush courageously leads his nation out of fear and into victory.

Working title for a history of the genre: "Shooting Blancs."

CDCharlie Dragohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12443794500217620551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5247465466156954332.post-36705138682451002192007-06-28T15:41:00.000-05:002007-06-28T15:41:00.000-05:00Film blanc? The movie manages to be both an exemplary noir and a sci-fi, Ridley Scott's finest moment, Harrison Ford finest moment, and still the best adaptation of Philip K. Dick. Brick shoulda made the list, it was a cool little sleeper, and a very smart teen riff on noir- a movie that utilized knocking around a genre to achieve a neat originality.Scotty Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02935119042970641558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5247465466156954332.post-26378646717370586152007-06-28T07:06:00.000-05:002007-06-28T07:06:00.000-05:00mdoggie,"Blade Runner" is without question film no...mdoggie,

"Blade Runner" is without question film noir of the highest calibre -- even as it stands, for this viewer, at or near the pinnacle of sci-fi films.

And trust me: 'I've seen things ... Charlie, I hear you and of course, we're kidding. We love and nurture our young charges, until they get strong enough to kill and eat us.

I want to add two films to the list without thinking - "Blade Runner"; I know it is Sci-Fi but by all standards it's classic film noir.
I also think "Brick" qualifies for inclusion, a post-modern, minimalist entry that deserves repeated viewings.

I must add, unrelated to this genre, I am viewing the 1976 "King Kong" right now. A film I was too cool, and too poor to see at the time it was released. It is amazingly over the top with Jessica Lange as truly young and unbelievably fecund, and Jeff Bridges as perhaps more beautiful and sexy than Jessica. Disturbing I know.mdoggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11683860463422580736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5247465466156954332.post-46349146448692700102007-06-27T17:12:00.000-05:002007-06-27T17:12:00.000-05:00Fuck those know-nothing nestlings. It dies with us....Fuck those know-nothing nestlings.

It dies with us.

Kiddinggggggggg!Charlie Dragohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12443794500217620551noreply@blogger.com
